Becoming a resource (foster) family in Hawaii means providing a safe home to a child in the care of Child Welfare Services. The first-aid requirement
Hawaii licenses resource family homes under Hawaii Administrative Rules Chapter 17-1625, and first-aid and CPR from a recognized organization is commonly expected of caregivers as part of preparing a safe home; a specific statewide statute mandating it for every resource family was not clearly confirmed in the available sources.
The requirement is administered by the Hawaii Department of Human Services, Child Welfare Services. Any certificate should be kept current and is one requirement in addition to the resource family assessment, background checks and the review of parenting suitability.
How to meet it
A recognized, up-to-date first-aid and CPR certificate meets this requirement. It is in addition to the required training or assessment, and is renewed periodically.
